the best part of any snow day - rich, creamy hot cocoa. chocolate, milk & sugar. it'll bring out the kid in all of us!
when you think about hot cocoa, what comes to mind? for me there is an instant association with snow, cold weather & fun. growing up, whenever it snowed my mom would make us cozy, steaming, rich mugs of hot cocoa to chase away the chill of a long day out playing in the snow. it always made those snowy winter days that much more special.
there is a fundamental difference between hot cocoa and hot chocolate. i always associate hot chocolate as being a grown up version of cocoa. deeper, stronger flavors, with an emphasis on the chocolate itself. cocoa, on the other hand, is all about balance - basic ingredients simply prepared. just cocoa powder, sugar and milk. that's it, nothing fancy. cozy and craveable. this recipe - my mom's recipe - gets it right, every time. the chocolate-to-sugar ratio is perfect -- chocolatey but not cloying, sweet but not too sweet. creamy and cozy. this is the essence of childhood in a cup.
go outside and play, then come in and make a big mug of this hot cocoa. it'll chase away the chill and wrap you up in a blanket of warm, creamy, cozy chocolate bliss. enjoy!
